The State of the
Economy, in Data.
Five visualisations across rates, prices, and work — every figure drawn from a named public release, current to July 2026. This page is a working sample of how we design information: sourced, accurate, and decodable in seconds.
The cash rate is back at its 2023 peak
After three cuts through 2025, the RBA raised the cash rate three times in 2026 — returning it to 4.35%, the level it first reached in November 2023. Hover the line for each decision.
Inflation is running above the target band
Annual inflation eased to 4.0% in May — but has now spent the first half of 2026 above the Reserve Bank's 2–3% band. Housing is doing the heavy lifting: 6.5% for the year, well clear of everything else.
Unemployment has drifted up — participation is holding
Over eighteen months the unemployment rate has moved from 4.1% to 4.4%, while the share of people in or seeking work has stayed near 67% — a labour market softening at the edges, not shrinking. Two panels, one scale each: never a dual axis.
Every figure on this page traces to a named public release: the RBA cash rate target series (decisions to 17 June 2026), the ABS Monthly Consumer Price Index (May 2026, annual movement, original terms), and the ABS Labour Force survey (June 2026, seasonally adjusted). Nothing is modelled, projected, or estimated by us. Each chart carries one message, labelled directly on the mark.
