South Australia,
Live in Data.

Five interactive pieces built from South Australian open data — tree canopy, wine exports, and sixteen years of reported crime. Each is a single self-contained artefact: fonts embedded, WCAG 2.1 AA enforced at compile time, a full data table behind every chart, and no external requests. They run below, live.

Adelaide's uneven tree canopy

Mitcham has more than four times the tree canopy of Port Adelaide Enfield. One number per council, joined to official boundaries — and the claim above is computed from the data at build time, so if the data changed, the sentence would fail before the page shipped.

Where South Australia's wine went

China took 44% of the state's exports, then almost none, then most of it back. A scroll-driven story: one world map, re-framed step by step as you read — the engine that turns a static PDF report into a narrative.

One dot for every suburb

The evidence behind the council map: all 392 suburb measurements, one dot each, lanes ordered by median. From Belair at 56.4% to Parafield at 1.4% — cover varies fortyfold across one city. Hover any dot; it answers.

The shape of the detour

Seven years of alcoholic beverage exports as one flow: China's band narrowing to a thread through the tariff years while Hong Kong swells beside it — then both reverse. Hovering resolves to real rows, not interpolations.

Sixteen years of crime in South Australia

Every offence reported to SAPOL since July 2010 — 1.78 million records — as a guided story that hands over to an instrument: search any of 2,295 suburbs and read its dossier down to the raw table. Rates refuse to lie about small places; suppressed locations are counted, never hidden.

How these are made

Each piece compiles to a single self-contained HTML file — fonts embedded, no external requests — so it runs identically from a CMS, an intranet, or an air-gapped network. WCAG 2.1 AA contrast is enforced at compile time: a failing theme refuses to build. Every chart carries a full data table for screen readers, and raw client data is parsed in the browser, never uploaded. Attribution: Department for Environment and Water; Department for Housing and Urban Development; Wine Australia; SA Police via data.sa.gov.au; ABS Census 2021 — all CC BY.
